Stages of ProductionTo begin with, i edited the best photos from my shoot, so i had a basis to work on.

I decided which one to use as a front cover, and began work on the layout

This is my original cover, where i was beginning to understand layout and colour, I decided that although it had the right components, it still needed work, and much more colour so i changed the editing on the photo, and arranged the side texts to be alot neater and more formal.

On this layout i have placed a pale green banner, this was to replace a banner i hadn't yet taken the pictures for, i wanted to arrange the layout and make sure i knew where everything should go.
In the end, i collected my images, and filled in all the gaps and produced a final front cover.

The use oif black and white fonts work well, as they are clear and easy to read, while not being a distraction from the page, I have used the blue colour, so that it links to my theme, i didn't want to overcrowd the page with it so i just added slivers of colour as underlines and picture frames. I put the headline for the main article right at the top, and i made it the boldest text so that it wouyld stand out from the others, and be obvious that it linked to the picture on the cover. I only used a small barcode, as the page was beginning to get quite over crowded, but it is still easy to find and doesn't go over the top of any important information. I used different font sizes for the headlines on the left, as it made them fit better on the page, but also this is a common feature on many magazines, such as 'Q', 'Rolling Stone' and 'The Word'.
Contents
For my contents page, i wanted it to be a feature page, so it had more colours and boxes. At first i decided on a patterned background, much like this
I like the overall appearance of this, and tested this layout with other bakcground designs and colours, however, i don't think that this fits with the theme, This title works well, and links with the cover, but the overall page needs to have more to ut, so i am going to use a plain bakcground and build upon it.
The colours on this page, link better with the cover, as do the fonts, although it could do with more colour and the text boxes should be filled as full as possible, to make the page look packed with information, as this is a general theme of contents pages.

The use of the dark pink on the left, makes the page looks bolder and brighter, it doesn't clash too much with the blue, and makes it seem more like a real magazine, Also, with my 2nd photos taken, i could place the image exactly where it should go, and giove me a good idea of colour as well as layout. On the left, i decided to put an editors list, as this is commonly found in music magazines, and other magazines. From my questionnaire, i found that most women, preferred the news and reviews sections to gossip columns and advice columns, this is what i ahd expected, but it cleared up and proved which sections i should include. While i only had 1 picture, it still seemed as though it needed more, so i created a small page in the corner, as a preview to what was coming later in the magazine, this is an idea i found in 'Q' magazine and it served well, i used one of the images from my cousins band, only i took one with a different style so it would look lesss like the others. The contents page took me around a week to produce, as i changed the style quite a bit whilst tryiong to arrange the layout, but also in order to take the pictures, i had to go and collect them in the evening, so i had to arrange my design work around when i could go and do my photography and journalism.
Double page SpreadAs i had decided on a feature page for my double page spread, i decided to create 2 so that i could link them and show diversity. This is common of many magazines as it can allow one page to look strong and persuade people to read it, yet allowing the article to have a page to itself. On the first page, i wanted to use my second strongest image on a page to itself, as this can double up as a poster for the younger audience, yet it can still just link to the article

Although i liked the look of this, I felt it needed something more. I printed this version, it was only then that i realised, i had edited it too much and the printer couldn't work with it, So i had to adapt it so that it would be easier to print. Also, i wanted to include some of the blue theme, so it would link together with my other pages. Also i needed a page number.
My final design

This page, followed nicely from the contents as it has the same style blue lines, also, the stars used for page breaks and page numbers are an ongoing theme on each page, The picture has been edited differently to allow for the printer, but i think it still has the same visual effect as the original. I inlcuded three album covers, created with album artwork, to make the page resemble a real magazine, and include extra colour and features to this page.
Second Double PageFor my second double page, i wanted a simple black and white article, with some colours linking to other pages, and one feature picture.

I made a plan of my second double page on microsoft word publisher. I hadn't finished editing the picture, but i had to get a general outlook to get an over view of the layout. I didn't quite keep to this exact layout, but i used all the same ingredients. I used this image, but had to adapt it differently for the printer, and made the text slide around the picture. Also i chose to put the picture on the other page as this resembled the first double page. In the space that says 'image' i took a picture of my sister and her boyfriend to make them look like the characters in my article. I didn't want it to be too artistic, but at the same time i wanted it to be a clear and good looking shot. The image i came up with was :

I think this shot works because it has a plain background and the upper body shots are clear , also the fact that she looks different on this picture, makes it more believable that it is an old photo.
My final second double page :
This works, because the reds on the page link together and contrast with the rest of the black and white page. I arranged the text to fit around the image, as this is something i saw in a magaine, it makes the photo seem like a studio shot, and means that her face is the main feature , not a pattern background. I used big quotes to break up the text, i made them in the same font style as my headlines, as it links the type writer theme together. I added a small text box to the 2nd image as this is what most magazines do, and it informs the reader of what the image is.
