First, our group needed to find a song. In order to do this, we searched our own favourable artists on youtube, from this point we then had to find the songs that our entire group agreed was good to have as an A-level project. Once this was achieved, we then had to look at each song’s individual lyrics to see which would be the best match for a music video. Examples of the songs we searched are as follows:
R Kelly songs 'Turn back the hands of time' and 'I believe i can fly'also by R Kelly however, we came to the conclusion that we needed a more up-beat song in order to fit the different aspects of the video that we had already planned i.e. type of dance.
Secondly, we searched songs that were not signed to a major record company, which would avoid the complications of asking for permission to use the song. However, we realised not many people would know the song, which would affect our target audience: nobody would be able to relate to the song. Also, our actors did not know the lyrics, which affected the emotion he put into the video, as he could not relate to the song.
Eminem- we looked at a wide range of eminem's videos and although we had a good idea for a few of his songs we decided that the lyrics were too fast and also explicit for our media project.
We finally came to the conclusion to use kid cudi - day and night; this was a perfect choice due to the fact that hip-hop appeals to a wide audience and has slower meaningful lyrics. furthermore, the beat leaves opportunity to incorporate dance scenes aswell.
