Research

To help us with our radio project we researched into each member of our groups local radio station- Radio City, Wire Fm and Wish Fm.
Radio City 96.7 is the number one commercial radio station for Liverpool, the North West and North Wales, broadcasting to a potential audience of 1.8 million people.
Radio city audience figures- 481,000
Radio city- 11.50 audience share

Wire FM is number one in its broadcast region.
Wire Fm audience figures-64,000
Wire fm- 6.80 audience share

Wish Fm is the radio station serving Wigan and St Helens.
Wish Fm audience figures-82,000
Wish fm- 9.40 audience share

To help us with the structure of our programme, we listened to a typical news programme on Radio City. This was the structure:
News jingle
Greeting
Two headlines- 1 female voice, 1 male voice
Radio jingle
Headline in more detail- female
Over to another presenter for more details
Interview with an outside source giving more details (phone call)
Back to reporter

(Similar news reports can be heard here http://www.wishfm.net/mediaplayer.php?mode=0)

We noticed in the news programme that music was used in the report. There was a news jingle at the beginning and a sports jingle. We have decided that we too will create a news and a sports jingle to feature in our programme to add authenticity.
We also noticed the use of differnet voices for different things, so different people will be needed for differnt things during our programme. (E.g. We will need one or two people for the news, a different person for the sport, different people for outside reporting etc)
We are aware of our target audience and know that it would be similar to our local radio stations.
Radio City delivers a broad all adults audience with a core of 25-44 year olds with a slight female bias, so our target audience would be similar to this.

Now we know our target audience and themes of typical radio shows, we are beginning to construct a usable script for the show.
