Print- Front Cover

To create my front cover i followed the example of existing magazines i looked at. This being a clear picture focused on the artist/band, simple colour scheme (not too many colours) and bold titles and fonts. The picture i have used i took against the plain turquoise background i think that it is bold and is great to use as a front cover picture, the main focus of the picture is the girl nothing else. I have edited the picture i have used the auto colour, auto contrast and auto levels. I have also made the picture larger so that the girl is the main focus on the page. I did have some trouble with the picture as the picture was taken in a bedroom, there was the edge of the light switch to the side of the picture, however i was able to fix this, i could have used different tools to do this but i was able to hide this without editing the picture anymore. With resizing the image to fit the page better i was able to hide the problem as it was pushed to the side so no longer fitted on the page.
After fixing my image i then went on to look for fonts and to come up with a good name for my music magazine. Using http://www.dafont.com/ i was able to find a couple of fonts that were bold and fitted with the image of my music magazine. For the magazine title i used a font called birth of a hero, the name i came up with for the magazine was Flare. This also follows ways of existing magazines, a short and rememarble title. The colouring i have used for the text is black as it is simple and bolding, for this i used the blending options and added a 3 point stroke to the text in the colour of purple. The black and purple work really well together making the text stand out against the turquoise background of the image. I have continued with this colour scheme as well as using white too. For all of the text on the cover, the stories i have again used a text from http://www.dafont.com/ capture it, this fits in with the text i have used for my title.
It was important for me to make sure my image and fonts as well as colour fitted in with the genre of magazine i was creating, as it has to be aimed at the specific audience, if a magzines images, text did not fit with the genre of the magazine it would not sell its magazines as the audience it was aiming to target would not be drawn to it. Therefore i have carefully thought out the genre of my magazine and the audience that i will be targeting. I decided that i would create a more general music magazne rather than focus on one particular genre of music, so looking at NME and Q were helpful for me. I thought that Q was a better example of what i wanted to create as it is less busy and more high class rather than NME.
Other fonts that i have used are lunbar and eurofence, these two are used for the cover story. eurofence for a quote from the interview and lunbar for the name of the artist as it looks like it is hand written. For this one i again used the effect of stroke to make the black text stand out. I have used this effect on all of the text apart from a quote, i have done this because looking at the text without the effect it did not really stand out but now it looks more clear and bold. It also captures your attention. The barcode on the cover was created using a font again from http://www.dafont.com/, as well as using a white rectangle shape. For the issue and price i used a font already on the photoshop programme.
On the front cover i have used a rectangle shape for a banner across the top again i have used the stroke effect on it. I have also matched this with a banner across the bottom, each banner has writing on, the top being what else is inside the magazine and the bottom being bands featurted. I think that the banners have worked well as when i looked at existing magazines this is a feature they use. Also having them breaks up the front cover a bit, not being too much about the picture, but still having the focus on it at the same time.
