Contents Page Stages of Production

Again, I created my contents page in Photoshop. To begin with, I made the background black fading into white with the ......... tool. This allowed the background not to be one block of colour and more stylish than if that was what it was.

At the top of the page, I laid out black square shapes that would outline where my text would go, for the name of the magazine as well as the date and other text. On top of these shapes, I wrote the magazine's tagline in the same font as the cover, in white, and the month the magazine was released. In the middle, I used another photograph of the model from the front cover, and cut it into a circle, then drew a white line of a circle around the picture a few centimetres apart from it.

Down the sides of the picture, I drew two white lines, indicating available space for other stories. On the left side, I left a thinner column, and listed all the bands that would be included within the magazine, and the pages they would be used on. The headline was 'Band Index', which was written larger than the band names, but still quite small. The bands were written in size ....... font, were white, and the page numbers red. The bands were also listed in alphabetical order.

On the right, I wrote the contents for the rest of the magazine, in a slightly wider column. I used the headlines 'Features', 'Regulars', 'Gigs' and 'Competitions'. I wrote these in white, but on a block of black colour, and made the text fit into the block. This allowed the text to be seen, and stand out more. For the headlines of the stories, I wrote them in black, smaller than the contents headlines, and then with the description of what they were written underneath in smaller but readable writing.
