Analysis and the Script

In response to our survey, we recieved feedback from nine people, which was just enough data to analyse, as we had a clear leader.

1. Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging - 55.6%
2. Mean Girls - 57.1%
3. 10 Things I Hate About You - 55.6%
3. Just Friends - 55.6%
4. Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen - 44.4%

In conclusion to this we wrote a script including shots and stage directions, which we loosely based on the structure of Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, but drew most of our attention on building the storyline of My Big, Fat, Mad, Teenage Diary.

RAE: [voiceover] [from side of bed; mid-shot of RAE writing in diary] I’ve got this really weird urge to start up a diary. I don’t know what it is but I think things are on the “up and up” as it were. So what’s happened? Urm…

[Pan of record collection] Record collection’s unbelievable now. Over 1,000 knock-off Nigel records. Half of them are scratched, [Any character picks up sleeve; pan to see scratched disc fall out; character walks past] but who cares?
[Mid-shot of RAE] (MUM standing next to stairs ready to leave; RAE standing next to her) I’ve still got “women’s problems” but my mum is fobbing me off by saying it’s my age.

MUM: [dialogue] [180 shot of conversation begins] It’s just a headache! Just grab a paracetamol and get to college, you’re late!

RAE: (groaning) But everything’s really painful mum, I should be off!

MUM: No, you’re going to have to cope with this for 30 years! We all go through this you know!

RAE: [voiceover] [close-up reaction shot of RAE] (distressed) Great. [180 shot of conversation ends]
[Pan shot to over RAE’s shoulder shot of CHLOE eating] Chloe’s up the duff. She told me in the sixth-form toilets whilst downing a Twix like it was the most normal thing in the world.
[Reaction shot of RAE]

[Track following RAE into living-room; pans to face BROTHER]
(BROTHER dancing, facing television) New Kids on the Block have released a new single. They’re so weird my bloody brother likes them! [Reaction shot of RAE looking shocked] It proves everything’s going to shit.

[Mid-shot of RAE writing in bedroom again]
I don’t want to say it, but I will get my revenge on all the people who have brought me down for not making me feel special.

[Close-up of RAE writing]
I have just watched Dirty Dancing again and just like Patrick Swayze says, “No-one puts Baby in the corner”. Well, no-one puts Rae in the corner.

Now that we have an accurate script in front of us, we can create the storyboards. We have to bear in mind, however, that the script could be subject to change depending on various possible situations that could arise during filming.
