Creation of magazine advert

When we have looked at the existing products within one of our first blogs, we identified that the CD packaging and the magazine advert need to have a similar style - in some cases identical. We would like to try making ours very similar to our created CD cover. For this, we decided to another shoot at Cranwell Avenue because this area is a good location due to the use of colour that is created from the trees and the leaves. From our shoot, this was the image we created -
We believe this image works well because it displays the artist in the centre of the page, leaving us with plenty of room to place any writing around the edges that we want. The use of the guitar also allowed us to emphasise that this advert is for something musical - If the guitar wasn't there the message may initially come across as confusing.
To make the advert much more like our CD front cover, we decided to add the same text we used on the CD cover for the poster as well. This will allow the audience to make a direct connection between the advertisement and the actual product. The size of the writing really emphasises the artist being advertised. This is due to the fact that the size of artist is quite small and the writing is much larger. Also, the image could show that the artist is on a journey, whether that be emotional or inspirational for his music. When looking at existing examples of magazine adverts, it is clear that they show the actual product being advertised. So, for our next stage we are going to add the CD image.

When we added the CD cover it was quite difficult to see the detail and that it was actually there. To combat this we thought about typical codes and conventions that may fit in with our music genre and we found that the idea of polaroid developments would work well. We believe that this worked very effectively within our advertisement because it allows the image to really stand out and balance the overall advert compositionally.
Next we decided to add the name of the album in the same style to the name of the artist at the top of the advert. We have done this because it will allow the audience to know the name of the album, allowing them to ask for it in store. We used the same text and idea of using burnt out lined paper because it allowed the style to be continued and connected with the artist. Next, all we wanted to do was add small amount of information at the bottom of the page that appear on most adverts and CD backs allowing us to follow typical codes and conventions.

Overall, we believe that our advert has come out effectively and really emphasises the CD and encourages people to buy it. It also gives an insight into the genre of music due to the idea of nature and a natural setting. It also further emphasised due to the prop of an acoustic guitar - clearly suggesting that this is an acoustic artist.
