Initial Ideas

Our initial idea was to produce a teen comedy for our piece. The target market being our peers made developing ideas for a teen styled drama more beneficial, we could easily aim our ideas to the specific genre. Following some typical codes and conventions of our particular genre, we created 5 stock characters, allowing relationships and interaction to build up our five minute time slot. We decided upon; The geek, the class clown, the beauty, the weirdo and the stoner. Although a largely exaggerated and stereotypical selection of teen characters we felt this dissection of 'classroom' society would capture our audience. From the creation of characters we were able to plan a story that connected them all, finally deciding on our 'Yearbook' idea. The basis being 5 characters that used to be friends, fell out of touch and now almost social opposites. They each join the colleges yearbook committee for differing reasons and find themselves confronted with each other and their past. As the story unfolds we are informed that the group of friends lost touch chiefly because they stopped having fun with each other. This realisation prompts them to take advantage of their being left in college alone, after hours.

We drew much of our inspiration for developing our film from the works of John Hughes, particularly 'The Breakfast Club'.

We looked at videos of short films, and looked at how they were structured and presented.
One of our favourite short films was Black Button:

We particularly liked the enigma of the story, as it created a sense of mystery. We have tried to add such elements into our video.

I Particularly liked this video, as I found it to be, personal, I liked seeing how each person reacted to the question and how they answered it.

While looking at example videos we also looked at example Posters, looking particularly at 'The Breakfast Club'

With this image its very clear the differences between them. You can see how the Beauty is lying at the front in a almost seductive manner. While the Jock is highlighted in his Sports Jacket.

We also looked at other Posters, not for the storyline, but for ones based within colleges to see if we could pic up some ideas from thesse too.

I liked the snap shots from this poster, I felt that we could possibly incorperate this into our poster, may to help show the diference between characters.
