Existing conventions in music videos.

Here are 6 key frames that we took from professional music videos when deciding how we were going to film our own;

1] This is a shot from 'Closer' by Ne-Yo. Here the main artist is shown with a member of the opposite sex who he is mentioning through the lyrics of the song. We found that using a member of the opposite sex in music videos is extremely popular among existing productions.

2] This shot from Britney Spears' song '3' shows a shot of the artist's legs as the camera moves over them - this illistrates how women are percieved within the media; perhaps as sex objects and typifies how the record label wants to convey the artist.

3] The money used on the set of the video in Lady GaGa's 'Beautiful, Dirty, Rich' clearly goes along with the general theme and style of the song. The money is used to further identify what the artist is singing about.

4] The lyrics "I take a train again away from shame" from 'Sticks and Stones' by Jamie T here match this shot - what is being sang is also being shown on screen and so the video clearly references the song - a convention used greatly by video producers.

5] This is a camera shot of Ke$ha from her song 'Tik Tok', it is an establishing full length shot, showing the background along with a full view of the artist and what she is wearing.

6] A close-up of the artist Jordin Sparks in 'SOS'. Close-ups are often used within music videos whilst the artist lip syncs. It also enables the audience to engage with the singer more.
