Prodcution of Double Page Spread

Double Page Spread – Stages of Production

I created my double page spread on Microsoft Publisher, which is different to the making of my contents and front cover on photo-shop.
I originally blocked out and highlighted areas where I would like images and text and clearly labelled the basic structure. However this changed slightly when I was creating my double page spread. It included a space for a title, photo shoot, interview and little extras. I then edited the background to orange to highlight the grey, black and white theme of the front cover and some of the contents page.
For the columns for my interview, I linked the boxes so the text shifted from one text box to the other automatically which helped a lot. I created an introduction before the interview and I made the first letter a header. This showed it was a formal interview and the layout worked well. I then arranged the text and changed the font sizes to highlight main areas of the text in the interview. I then placed photographs of Polaroid’s in the text; it didn’t interrupt the text and made the page look more realistic as a double page spread in a music magazine. I changed the questions to bold black, plain font and I left the answers in the same font and size, just without boldness.
I then changed my type on the title for ‘Do the Nasty’. I got my text from dafont.com and it helped with the indie/electro vibe. The text was called ‘stencil 09’. I simply made the text black and it stood out against the orange background.
I placed the Polaroid shots along the bottom of the interview section, but I knew that on the right hand side I wanted to lay out the best shots from photo-shoot 2. I simply placed them underneath the title on the page on the right hand side. The images were quite big, but they dark images stood out against the orange background. It helped to represent the band. I used an ‘urban font from dafont.com to help me write the text and quotes from the interview.
I added extras on the page such as blocks of irregular blocks of darker orange to give the page depth. I placed them behind the text and I stopped them at the images of the right hand side of the page. Other extras I also included as I developed to get to my final product.
