Design Idea One
I picked an image and cut it out of the background. I placed it on a white background and started putting the Masthead on the page. I did not continue with this idea as I thought the image was not working very well as it looks stretched out. Also it is obvious that it has been cut out from a background as the edges are too straight and it needs to be smoothen down. I also thought that the image took up most of the page and it would be hard to look for a colour sheme to match and one that the readers will be able to see.

I picked out another photograph and edited it. I put a background of grey and white and used a "splatter" brush to match the designs on the top that she is wearing. I also placed the Masthead and the Cover Lines. I used the colours black as it matches her hair and parts of her clothing and red as it is close to the pink on her top and I want the colour red to be the colour of the magazine. I also put the price, date and bar code. I thought of putting the website for additional information. I thought this idea worked well. However when I was reviewing it I noticed that it is hard to tell which is the main article from the cover lines so I decided to edit it. Maybe to change the colours of some of the articles and change the arrangement of things on the page.

Final Design
This design was an improvement from design 2. The Masthead that I choose to use was sans serif like the ones that I have seen in other magazines. I like the masthead font as it looks edgy and a bit rough suggesting that it is a bit "street". The tag line that I choose "Making the Music" came from the idea of the Masthead meaning "Putting Together". I choose to put this in a serif font to give an idea of it being delicate, an irony from the masthead. The denotation of her jewellery connotes that she is not an artist that has been on the industry long enough to be buying expensive jewellery. The dress code on the page is quite casual fashionable, this gives the readers an idea that this artist that I am trying to portray has an eye for fashion and that maybe the readers would aspire to be like her. Her facial expression is happy because she has a smile but it looks as if she has something to say that would interest the reader. I think the representation of the image is about the young people (target audience) that aspire to be successful like the character I have created. The fonts that I choose for the main article and cover lines we the same and in sans serif as it is easier to read. In order to identify which is the main article without reading I made it bigger from the rest and placed it in the middle of her image. The colour scheme have reds ( the colour that I want the magazine to have), blacks (to match her hair and part of her clothing), purples, pinks (to match her clothing). I have also placed other little things that a magazine should have like the bar code, price, date and the website. I think overall that my front cover achieved the brief.

The image I have below is the layout of the page, I have chosen to use three columns for this and also there are three sections. The font I will be using is arial as I think that it is easily read and won't confuse the readers. I have followed the same colour code like the front cover to show continuity and that these pages belong to the same magazine. I will be putting a section for the editors message to make it look official. I also have placed the logo on top of the page and placed a border to make it look as if it was well designed. I have also put splatters on the back ground of the page to link with the front cover and to make it look as though that is theme of this months issue. I have put an image of another character that I have created, I have made it as if he is linked to the character on the front page. I also have out the words "Contents January" to clarify that it is a contants page and that it is the January issue. When I have finished my content page I think that it worked well as it gives enough information about the pages and it appeals to the readers eyes.

To create my double page spread I have looked at my research and took a feature from each. I think that my double page spread is effective as overall the look of it is pleasing to the eye and it looks as if it will contain a lot of information that will interest the reader. I have placed a lot of images on these pages so when the reader flicks through the pages he/she will spot it straight away. In the title the font for her name "Priyana" was taken from the front cover, I have kept the same font for the magazine name and the words "gets to know" is in serif, again, to give an idea of being delicate. I have out boxes where the text could go, I made the boxes tranparent so the design of the background can be seen. In the background I have used some flowery/feminine looking brushes to show her girly side. Like the content page I have put the same border page and logo, but, I placed the word insight to let the readers know that this article is somthing special. The main image in these pages is the one where she is sat on a sofa, I wanted this page to have a relaxed feel to it, as if she was talking to Montage like a friend in her livingroom. I have also put the date and page number at the bottom of the page.
When I have placed the article into the page I also put some quotes all around the page like in what I saw in my research. I used a font of arial as it looks neat and clear and the size of 9. The qoutes that I have choosen are in a different font and bigger size for it to stand out of the page. I read through the article that I have written and I am pleased as I think that the language is easily understood by an average 16-19 year old.
