It is important that the features of the magazine design I will be creating demonstrate a relevant appropriate genre, representation and ideology. It is also important that images selected release the representation and ideology to match the genre of the magazine. Most of today’s typical successful music magazines are mainly centred on youths and ideas of rebellion. So the images and style of magazine I select need to be appropriate to this style and culture of today’s youth.
A lot of today’s best-selling music magazines portray the idea of rebellion and mischief amongst today’s “rock stars” and modern pop-culture indie/ rock and alternative musicians. So I have chosen to not duplicate this style of theme and have chosen to create my magazine of the also popular R’n’B and bassline genre. Here are sum examples of some successful grungy magazines that incorporate there magazines into this genre.

If we use this issue of SOURCE Magazine as an example, we see that the majority of the figures on the page adopt a particular “rough and ready” grungy appearance which the viewer would typically receive as an image of their personality and subsequent genre of music. In my magazine I will replicate the some of the same ideology and representations seen in this type of music genre. I will also incorporate some of the grungy effects that NME and KERRANG magazine has so that my magazine will look just right for the target audience.
