For my piece of coursework I have decided after finishing the prelim tasks, I am going to for fill my potential and do print. For which includes creating a new music magazine of your choice. I will have to design the front cover, contents page and a double page spread, featuring an interview or article. It has to contain the similar quality that relates to a current professional-quality music magazine. Therefore, I will need to research different existing magazine companies from which I can annotate the design and layout and build up knowledge of a good music magazine. Photographic imaging will have to be of a high quality in order to demonstrate professional editing, which logically will have to be taken by myself so is original and not copied from any other source, so copyright is not breeched. I will have to contemplate types of font, styles, sizes and colours extremely cautiously as they will effect the final piece. I will also have to research my target audience, and make a definite decision as this is vital to a consistence successful music magazine.
My research will be based on current successful music magazines that are top sellers in the music scene such as NME, CLASH, Q, MOJO and KERRANG. I will also carry out research on new magazines such as WOOFAH as they include many aspects that grab the target audience’s attention, which I could use effectively. This should give me a clear idea of today’s style and flare of magazine publishing, mostly relating to the music industry. I have already started to consider a number of styles and names for my magazine. I have found that a music magazine name should be short yet makes a statement within itself. As I am creating a new music magazine I have considered using a new genre of music, garage/grime as there are very few successful magazines in this genre. This style of music is all so up and coming as it is the new young urban style. So I have contemplated names such as Pure Grime, Bassline and flex.
