Print - Analysis of Key concepts

It is important that the features of the magazine design demonstrate a relevant and appropriate genre, representations, ideology etc. Images play an important role in emitting a particular ideology and representation. In this case, the representations within a typical music magazine would be mainly centred on youths, musicians etc. A lot of today’s best-selling music magazines portray the idea of rebellion and mischief amongst today’s “rock stars” and modern pop-culture indie/rock/alternative musicians. This “theme” is also common within the general ideology of a lot of current music magazines. The attitudes of rock music magazines seem to be commonly quite edgy and portray numerous rock figures to be menacing stereotypes to mirror the genre of music and imitate the connotations which it brings. If we use this issue of Kerrang Magazine as an example, we see that the majority of the figures on the page adopt a particular “rough and ready” appearance which the viewer would typically receive as an image of their personality and subsequent genre of music.

My magazine will generally replicate the some of the same ideology and representations since I have chosen to create it of a similar genre to Kerrang, NME, Rolling Stone etc.
